About Bridgestone

Bridgestone’s involvement in Formula 1, GP2 and MotoGP is operated by Bridgestone Motorsport and headed by Director, Hiroshi Yasukawa. Although its operational base is in the UK, all design and production of Formula 1, GP2 Asia and MotoGP tyres takes place at the Technical Centre in Tokyo, with tyres shipped to the UK (F1, GP2) or Germany (MotoGP) for distribution to European races and tests.  All GP2 main series tyres are produced in Bridgestone’s Technical Centre in Rome.  Tyres for flyaway races are sent directly from Japan to countries like Australia, Singapore and Brazil.

Motor sport participation provides a global stage for the company, its technology and expertise. But away from grands prix, there is much more to the Bridgestone Corporation. Bridgestone Motorsport is just one part of a global company, which employs over 133,500 people worldwide and has offices, factories or continental headquarters in more than 150 countries. Its worldwide head-quarters are in Tokyo, Japan whilst the company’s Chairman of the Board, CEO and President is Shoshi Arakawa.

Established in 1931 by Shojiro Ishibashi, the Bridgestone Corporation is now the world’s largest manufacturer of rubber products and tyres for cars, motorcycles, agricultural, industrial and mining vehicles, airplanes, trucks and buses.  The company’s diverse operations include the manufacture of:

Golf equipment

Bridgestone first started production of golf balls in 1935.  Over the past 80 years developments in golf ball technology have led Bridgestone to be the number one golf ball producer in Japan.

Design and production of golf clubs followed in 1972 with the same passion for excellence propelling Bridgestone to a leadership position in the current marketplace.

At the start of 2009, the International Network of Golf presented Bridgestone Golf with the ING Industry Honours Award for the Product Ingenuity - Market Leaders category, recognizing the Tour B330-RX as the most innovative golf product of 2008.

Clean Energy

Bridgestone formulated EVASAFE, an adhesive film that fastens silicon cells to glass in solar modules. The strength of EVA (ethylene vinyl acetate) film is that it becomes transparent and colourless when heated, while its waterproof and UV resistant characteristics make it the perfect bonding agent for outdoor solar units. EVA film is a critical component of solar modules, which are in increasing demand as a clean energy source.

Electronic Paper

Bridgestone is also responsible for inventing the world’s largest-class, thinnest*, flexible colour display. The electronic paper, called Quick Response Liquid Powder Displays (QR-LPD) is an alternative to liquid crystal displays (LCD) and can be used for showing dynamic images (motion pictures) and photographs.  The electronic paper requires no electrical power to maintain the image, making QR-LPD’s a medium that could potentially replace paper displays in the future. Electronic paper contributes to forest preservation by conserving paper resources and to the prevention of global warming by saving power.
