Super GT Round 4 Review

Malaysia’s Sepang circuit played host to 25,000 spectators on Sunday 22 June for the fourth round of the Super GT Championship. Michael Krumm and Masataka Yanagida of the Motul Autech GT-R team were the highest placed Bridgestone-shod partnership finishing the race in second.

Loic Duval, driving the No. 32 Epson NSX, had looked strong from the start however midrace contact with Sebastien Phillippe dropped the teams down the racing order. Tsugio Matsuda and Phillippe eventually finished the race in fourteenth whilst Duval and Hiranaka retired on lap 43.

Race winners Joao Paolo de Oliveira and Seiji Ara drove their way into the record books by becoming the first partnership ever to win the event two years running.

Yoshihiro Hosoya, Bridgestone tyre engineer, said:
“It was a disappointing race for us. Krumm/Yanagida of GT-R and Firman/Izawa of NSX could have won this round but the midrace accident and other problems meant this was not possible. The Bridgestone tyres performed well and we were able to show a strong performance even towards the end of the race. That is why we are disappointed to have lost the win.”
