GP2 News - What Does Pizzonia Do Now?
09/11/2006
Following his successful GP2 test at Jerez this week, ex-Formula 1 driver Antonio Pizzonia (above) has stated his desire to race in a Bridgestone-supported championship in 2007.

"There is the possibility to race in GP2," says Antonio, "but there is also ChampCar. It will be a difficult decision, but whatever I do I want to be in a position to win races."

The 26-year-old topped the times for FMS International on the first day of testing at Jerez by more than 0.7s, prompting speculation that he will most likely contest the GP2 Series next year. Adding weight to this rumour is the fact that Pizzonia still has F1 ambitions, and the GP2 races take place over GP weekends.

"I have recent F1 experience," he says, "having raced for Williams at the end of '05. I feel that I have unfinished business there and I want to race in F1 again."

Pizzonia's dominance during GP2 testing was limited to only one day. During the rain-affected running on day two, he was only 12th fastest, with GP2 rookie Bruno Senna topping the times in the morning and Jose Maria Lopez doing the same in the afternoon. Neither Senna nor Lopez got to within five seconds of Pizzonia's time from the previous day.
