GP2 News - Nakajima Joins Williams In Brazil
15/10/2007
Kazuki Nakajima, who finished fifth in the Bridgestone-supported GP2 Series this year, will make his Formula 1 debut with Williams this weekend. The Japanese driver will partner 2005 GP2 champion Nico Rosberg, following the retirement of Alex Wurz.

Although Nakajima has never previously raced in F1, he has plenty of experience in the Williams FW29. He has completed more than 7,000 kilometres in testing and he has also driven during first practice at five races this year, so he is perfectly poised to make a positive impact in his first F1 race.

"I was informed of the decision while I was in Shanghai for the Chinese Grand Prix," says Kazuki. "I'm very excited and a little nervous about it. It will also be good to work alongside Nico because he has proved this year that he is one of the fastest drivers in F1."

Nakajima's promotion to an F1 seat is another ringing endorsement of the GP2 Series. He becomes the sixth GP2 driver to race in F1, and the Brazilian GP will be the first time ever that two GP2 drivers have been team-mates in F1.

"I have never been to Interlagos," says Kazuki, "but I can normally learn new circuits very quickly. I have driven the track on the Williams simulator at their factory in Grove and I have increased my training programme to prepare my neck for the anti-clockwise direction of the track.

"Obviously it would be nice to score points, but my only goal for the weekend is to do the best job that I can."
