Dixon claims third win of the season

Target Chip Gannasi’s Scott Dixon claimed his third win of the season at the Texas Motor Speedway on Sunday.

The Indy 500 winner continued his dominant 2008 form at the Bombardier Learjet 550, claiming pole position on Saturday, and then taking advantage of a late race crash involving Marco Andretti and Ryan Hunter-Reay to win under yellow flag conditions.

Helio Castroneve’s finished the race in second, his seventh top-five finish at the circuit, whilst Milwaukee race winner Ryan Briscoe claimed third.

Scott Dixon, #9 Target Chip Ganassi Racing, said:
“The Firestone tyres were great, very consistent for us. I didn’t have any problems with them. At some point, maybe the balance (of the car) was maybe a bit of an issue for us, but every time we bolted a new set of Firestones on, they were fantastic.”

From Al Speyer, Executive Director, Firestone Racing: “Breathtaking is the only way you can describe the incredible racing tonight, but that’s nothing new for Texas Motor Speedway. This facility has always provided this kind of excitement. All of the drivers had the confidence once again in their Firestone Firehawks to run several lines without wavering. Marco Andretti owned the high side tonight and Ryan Hunter-Reay ran an extended stint on his first set of tyres to put himself into contention. It’s a shame they had their incident at the end because we think it was setting up for an amazing finish. But we’re glad both drivers are OK. Congratulations again to Scott Dixon and Target Chip Ganassi Racing; things are certainly going their way right now.”
