MotoGPNews - New Boys Praise Bridgestone Tyres
15/11/2006
Several of Bridgestone’s new recruits for next year’s MotoGP programme tried Bridgestone’s tyres for the first time in the week after the final Valencia GP – and have been elated with their fast lap times and good impressions.

This was further proof of the “user-friendly” nature of the Japanese racing tyres. The weekend before Bridgestone had claimed first and second places with the factory Ducatis – and first-time race winner Troy Bayliss (above) had never even ridden on Bridgestone tyres before.

The new boys included rising young Australian Casey Stoner, who will ride for Ducati next year, and was having his first tests on the 800cc Desmosedici GP7 machine after racing a Honda the previous weekend.

Stoner set a faster time than his more experienced team-mate Loris Capirossi, both riding the 800cc machine, the design of which is already well advanced. As significantly, Stoner also lapped faster on the smaller machine than he had in the race.

Another top-level Bridgestone rookie, seven-times MotoGP winner Marco Melandri, cut three-tenths off his best weekend time, riding for the first time on Bridgestones on the Team Gresini Honda. The Italian was riding the same 990cc Honda he had raced in Valencia.

Melandri revealed to pressmen that he had pushed hard for the team to switch to Bridgestones for 2007, because the Japanese company would be able to better support his and the Honda’s requirements.
