CCWS News - Milwaukee Mile Out, Europe In For 2007
11/10/2006
Champ Car has announced its schedule for the 2007 Bridgestone Presents the Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford, following the Phoenix City Council's approval of the street course season-closer in December.

There are currently 15 rounds on the CCWS calendar, a mix of road and street tracks, but for the first time in Champ Car history there won’t be an oval race, with the loss of the traditional race at the Milwaukee Mile.

It’s also clear that at least two more races could be added, as there is a notable two-month gap between the August 19 round at Denver, and the October date at Surfers Paradise, Australia.

Two “fly-away” European rounds, at Assen, Holland and possibly Oschersleben, Germany, could fill this gap.

Champ Car would only consider going to Europe for a double-header on back-to-back weekends, not a single race, due to the shipping expenses for the series.

However, should either Assen or Oschersleben come up with the money while the other does not, there is still the possibility of a European double-header, with a visit to Lausitz's road course becoming one half of the trip.

If a European trip doesn't happen in 2007, the gap in the schedule may be filled by a race at Miller Motorsports Park at Utah.

Notable absentees from next year's schedule are Montreal, which has been replaced by a July date at St Jovite (Mont-Tremblant), Quebec, Monterrey in Mexico, as well as the Milwaukee Mile.
