GP2 News - Carlin Teams Up With DPR For 200728/11/2006
Carlin Motorsport will enter the Bridgestone-shod GP2 Series in 2007, when it joins forces with DPR. The new team will be called Carlin DPR and becomes the fifth championship contested by Trevor Carlin's effervescent outfit.
"I am absolutely delighted that we're moving into GP2 next year," said Carlin, who was briefly involved in the management of the Midland F1 Team in 2005. "I am confident that we can build on the success that DPR has achieved in its last two years of GP2. David and I have come to an agreement that is beneficial to both of us, and having him involved with the team next year will be invaluable."
The team will be run out of new premises in Chessington, Surrey, which Carlin bought earlier this year. The factory has its own wind tunnel, which will benefit the team's GP2 campaign, as well as its teams in Formula BMW, Formula 3, World Series by Renault and A1GP.
"Trevor and I have known each other for more than 20 years," said David Price, "and we've always worked well together. This deal puts the top on the Carlin pyramid of race series, from 15-year-old drivers entering the sport, right through to the door of F1."
The new team will conduct its first on-track activities at the Valencia test next week.
