First win of the season for Briscoe in Texas
Ryan Briscoe clinched his first win of the season at the Firestone 550K IndyCar race at Texas Motor Speedway on Saturday 5 June.
The Team Penske driver started from pole position and finished 1.463 seconds ahead of driver Danica Patrick, a season best finish for the Andretti Autosport driver. The pairing battled hard in the closing laps of the race with Briscoe surrendered the lead to Danica when he pitted with 38 laps remaining, though he quickly returned to the front of the pack.
Marco Andretti (Andretti Autosport) finished third, followed by New Zealand's Scott Dixon (Target Chip Ganassi Racing) and Indianapolis 500 winner Dario Franchitti (Target Chip Ganassi Racing) of Scotland.
Good to win in Texas
"This is four (Texas races) in a row where I've finished where I started, but this one is definitely best. It was hard-fought out there and we had some really good racing. I've dreamt of shooting those six-shooters (in victory lane), it just feels so good to get this win here in Texas. The Firestones were pretty good tonight. I think they made the racing really interesting. We were falling off a little bit at the end of the stints and had to work on the car set-up to keep the tires under us. We had to conserve a little bit, which made the racing very exciting."Race winner Ryan Briscoe, #6 Team Penske Dallara/Honda/Firestone
Texas Motor Speedway delivered exciting race
"Once again, Texas Motor Speedway delivered some of the most exciting, side-by-side racing we see on the entire IZOD IndyCar Series schedule. Congratulations to Ryan Briscoe and Team Penske for pulling out another fantastic win. With the heat and the track's high banking, it's one of the toughest tests of tires and we're glad that the new Firehawk specs held up very well again tonight. Texas Motor Speedway did a fantastic job supporting Firestone as title sponsor. We can't thank Eddie Gossage and his staff enough for what they did for us. We're really eager to come back next year."Al Speyer, Executive Director, Firestone Racing
